Glorious Cooking Tips

1. Cooking a bird in a crock pot. Slather with mayonnaise (not the fake stuff) and not butter. Put on a rack or canning tops to suspend it out of the yuck. Cook on high 6 hours (not 4) and let rest 10 minutes before serving.

2. Like thicker cookies but yours always turn out flat. Add more flour. That is my secret and it works. Remember if they are too fat and you want them thinner use less flour.

3. To cook Broccoli, cauliflower, brussel sprouts, green beans, and corn on the cob to perfection. When you are about 30 minutes from dinnertime put them in a pan of water with a tablespoon oil and bring to a boil. Cover and turn off heat and leave on the stove burner. Pull them from the water when the rest of the meal is cooked. It only takes about 15 minutes. They will be perfectly done, brightly colored and hot.

4. Recipe requires an egg but you have none, use 1/4 cup oil instead.

5. Recipe says oil or butter but you are trying to cut down on fats, use the same amount of applesauce instead.

6. Any noodle dish can be made in a crock pot by cooking the meat before adding then add the noodles about 45 minutes before you are ready to eat. This works with lasagna, spaghetti, elbows or any other. just add 1/2 cup more water or broth to allow the noodles to adsorb the moisture. 

7. Making lasagna but hate handling the hot noodles, well you don't have to. Instead make your lasagna as you would but with uncooked noodles just add 1/2 cup of water to the sauce. then cover with foil and bake as usual. it doesn't even need extra time in the oven.

Stone Lore- Petoskey Stone

Old fashioned Blueberry Muffins

I was going through old recipes for breads and came across one for blueberry Muffins. The ingredients intrigued  me. Later my husband brought home blueberries so I started making them.

They didn't really look special when they were baked but one taste made a fool out of me. They were so good. Recipe makes 6 larger muffins or 9 smaller ones. We made 9. When we stopped there were 3 left. This recipe can easily be doubled.

In a measuring cup or small bowl

1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon Lemon juice
1 teaspoon vingear

Let sit 10 minutes


In a  large bowl Put

1 cup flour
1/4 cup sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg
3 tablespoons butter (melted)

add the milk mix and beat well fold in
1 pint blueberries

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Put cakes cups into the muffin tin and spoon mixture into either 6 or 9 muffins. Bake for 25 minutes. Will post picture as soon as I get my phone back.

Chocolate Chunk Coffee Cookies and Caramel Macchiato cookies

I made these yesterday and they were gone last night. there were only two of us. They were incredible.

1 stick butter
1/2 cup brown sugar packed
1 large egg
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon instant coffee granules
1/2 teaspoon salt

Beat together and add

1 1/2 cups flour
1 square chocolate bark chopped.

Mix well and drop by teaspoonfuls on a cookie sheet (I love my bakers secret) and bake in a 350 degree oven for 12 minutes.

Want Caramel Macchiato cookies

Switch up the coffee granules for espresso powder, add two tablespoons caramel ice cream topping and 3 tablespoons more flour. Don't change the amount of flour if you prefer thinner cookies like top picture.

Maiden Ritual-

Dress in something that makes you feel beautiful or go sky-clad. Put flowers in your hair. Dance before the altar, imagine Maidens dancing with you.

When you feel ready seat yourself before the altar. light the white candle and say:

"With this flame I ignite within me the spirit of the Maiden."

Ring a bell or drum for a few minutes, do some deep breathing, concentrate on the candle flame. When ready look at the images of the Maidens or see Maidens in your minds eye. Say:

"I am whole unto myself
I am a bright maiden
Strong, invincible, and free
I am a dark maiden
Cloaked in veils and mysteries
I am the pulse of the sun
And the pull of the moon
Flowing from one to the other
In perfect harmony

Chant these words over and over if you wish. Feel the meanings move through you. Take some time for meditation. Ask the Goddess to send you strong images of powerful Maiden Goddesses and role models in your every day life. See the images before you float towards you and become one. Take up the chalice and drink deeply. Say:

Eat a seed and say:
"As this seed sprouts new life

When you feel complete, ground the energy and snuff out the candle.

Dinner last night was wonderful Taco Gordito's

Thank you Colleen Sowa for this recipe for fry bread. we use it often to nights dinner was Taco filling in these babies. Sorry my Picture phone is down at the moment.

MEXICAN FRY BREAD GORDITA'S

3 c all purpose flour

1/2 tsp salt

2 1/2 Tbsp baking powder

6 Tbsp margarine

1 c milk (or water)

OIL FOR FRYING

2 inches vegetable oil

1. Combine flour, salt, baking powder and shortening; mix until shortening is blended. Add water; mix well. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured board; knead until smooth, about 2 minutes. Roll dough into a ball; place into a plastic bag and let sit for 10 minutes. Separate into 10 balls and roll out each ball of dough to make 10 (4-inch to 6-inch) flat, thin rounds.

2. In a cast iron skillet, heat oil to 375 degrees F. Place rounds in oil one at a time; cook each side 18 to 35 seconds or until light golden brown. Remove rounds from skillet with a slotted spoon; drain on paper towels. Fill with prepared fillings as desired or eat as a bread with soups and stews.

The Taco filling we used

1 1/2 pounds hamburger
1 medium onion diced
1 pack taco bell brand taco seasoning or equivalent
added condiments for the Gordita's like sour cream, shredded cheeses and lettuce, taco sauces, sliced avocado.

Brown hamburger and onion together adding the taco seasoning package and simmer with a little water until the water has been cooked out. serve over gorditas with condiments

Pumpkin Pie granola

Choose a version and prepare by the directions below. Version 1 not oil uses applesauce instead

"Version 1"
1/3 cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
3 1/2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup sliced almonds
1/2 cup chopped pecans
2/3 cup applesauce
1/2 cup honey
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried cranberries

"Or this version 2''

4 cups old-fashioned oats
1/2 cup chopped pecans
3/4 cup shredded coconut
1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/4 cup honey
3 tablespoons pure maple syrup
1 1/2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup dried cranberries

Preheat an oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C). Coat 2 baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray.
Combine brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, rolled oats, almonds, and pecans in a large bowl. Mix the applesauce(if version 1), Coconut (if version 2) honey, oil (in in your version) and vanilla in a separate large bowl. Stir the oat mixture into the applesauce mixture, until granola begins to gather in clusters. Spoon granola evenly onto prepared baking sheets.
Bake in preheated oven, stirring every 20 minutes, until lightly browned and crispy, about 1 hour.
Remove from oven; cool to room temperature. Stir in raisins and cranberries; store in an airtight container. Makes 7 cups of granola.

writing today

Yesterday was a mixed emotion day today is quiet and still. Writing comes easier when it is not but developing a story comes better on days like today. Still both have their value.

So far I am seeing kit kats, hot fudge ice cream topping and either marshmallows as pigs or icing ones with pink crystals. I would make the cake chocolate, no better yet double cheese cake layers with more hot fudge sauce inside. what do you think.

A favorite breakfast~ Custard filled Dutch babies and sausage

This recipe I got from Lillian Russo on JAP. I tweaked it as it always was burnt with the heat she had set at  425 degrees and I added the vanilla or another flavor as the plain was just that, too plain.

2 Tbsp butter 

1 1/2 c milk 

3 lg eggs

1/4 c sugar

3/4 c all purpose flour

1/2 tsp salt

1 tablespoon any one of these vanilla extract, lemon extract, almond extract, banana flavoring or 2     tablespoons maple syrup

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Place the butter in a 8 inch square baking dish and put in the oven just to melt the butter. When butter has melted in the baking dish, remove from oven a swirl butter in dish to coat.

Put all the other ingredients into a blender in order to avoid extra scraping of the sides and blend on high for a minute.

Pour in the blended egg mixture and bake uncovered for 30 minutes. It will come out like a souffle and then drop. it is suppose to. then Just cut and serve

Serve warm with maple syrup,  any flavored syrup or drink syrup. I prefer caramel syrup, my husband prefers plain.

It is also wonderful as a dessert with strawberry drink syrup and fresh cut strawberries and topped with whipped cream or the banana one done with a frosting drizzle and cut bananas

                       This I did one Samhain/Halloween and served as a dessert with designer coffee

The caramel is from a squeeze ice cream topping, the spider was black piped icing and a orange icing piped body both from the spray cans you see at Walmart around Samhain/ Halloween

Easy Mac

Although I rarely use a recipe and never make anything twice exactly the same, we both loved this. PS, this was invented with what we had on hand that day.

Every once in a while Eric likes something in the casserole or goulash area of the food chain. this was our last one. we really enjoyed it. we had it for three meals so it will easily serve 6-8 as Raptor also liked it and had her share minus the onions I could pick out.

  Serves: 6-8 easy 

 

1 1/2 pound hamburger

1 jar(s) favorite spaghetti sauce

1 medium onion diced

2/3 package noodles (we used elbows)

1 quart home canned tomatoes

garlic powder, diced or both we like lots

1-2 teaspoons chili powder

3/4 cup Parmesan cheese

1-2 cup shredded cheese

pepper, salt to taste

1-2 teaspoons sugar

 

1. Cook hamburger with onion and garlic until crumbled and done drain if needed. to that add the spaghetti sauce and the canned tomatoes minus most the water. Simmer with the seasonings, sugar and Parmesan cheese.

2. In the meantime cook the noodles to El-dente and drain and stir then put in a casserole dish and cover with cheese and place in a 350 degree oven for 25-35 minutes until bubbling. Remove and serve.

Prepare your altar, light the incense and candle. Grind the herbs in your mortar and pestle (If you
have used it for grinding poisonous herbs, then either buy a new one for cooking, or use a food
processor ), charge the herbs for your magical purpose. Put enough wine in the saucepan, simmer,
then add herbs slowly. As you do it, feel your intention for love, stir in herbs, keeping your focus.

Happy Valentines Day dinner for two

We both love shrimp so we decided to go with it today. I cooked it slow to maintain the soft freshness of the shrimp. The jasmine rice was the perfect complement to the sweet spiciness of the sweet chili sauce. Although it may look rather plain, the taste was anything but plain. We served it with a side salad, some homemade bread and jasmine Tea

Cook time: 20 Min  Prep time: 10 Min  Serves: 2

Ingredients

16-20 large shrimp, peeled and deveined with tail on

1/2 stick butter (1/4 cup)

2 teaspoons garlic

3 pkg Mc Donald's sweet chili sauce

2 c uncooked wild rice

2 tea bags Jasmine tea

For the shrimp 

 

Place large finger size or better shrimp still frozen into a fry pan along with the garlic, butter, and the three packets of sweet chili sauce. simmer while you make the rice. this allows the spices to cook through the shrimp while still leaving the shrimp soft. There is nothing worse that chewy over cooked shrimp, so keep it on low.

 

For the rice 

 

In a pot put 4 cups water and the teabags. bring to boil and add rice. simmer until cooked. remove bags and serve your very own Jasmine rice.

 

To serve

Place rice on the plate, top with 1/2 the shrimp and serve the butter sauce on the side to add as each want. I poured a little over mine while my husband used most of it on his.

Making Almond Milk and then Almond meal

You can also do this meal thing with oat and rice pulp. PS> I found this picture on a friends site on facebook.

I am doing this but skipping the step where you use the water for plants. instead add 4 cups water to the almonds and process with that same 4 cups water to keep the nutrition in the milk. And use compost on your plants and everyone is happy

Something else I didn't know ... I asked my Doctor why people need to urinate so much at night time. Answer from my Cardiac Doctor -
Gravity holds water in the lower part of your body when you are upright (legs swell). When you lie down and the lower body (legs and etc) seeks level with the kidneys, it is then that the kidneys remove the water because it is easier. This then ties in with the last statement!
I knew you need your minimum water to help flush the toxins out of your body, but this was news to me.
Correct time to drink water... Very Important. From A Cardiac Specialist!

Drinking water at a certain time maximizes its effectiveness on the body: 2 glasses of water after waking up - helps activate internal organs
1 glass of water 30 minutes before a meal - helps digestion
1 glass of water before taking a bath - helps lower blood pressure
1 glass of water before going to bed - avoids stroke or heart attack


I can also add to this... My Physician told me that water at bed time will also help prevent night time leg cramps. Your leg muscles are seeking hydration when they cramp and wake you up with a Charlie Horse.

1. If you take an aspirin or a baby aspirin once a day, take it at night.
The reason: Aspirin has a 24-hour "half-life"; therefore, if most heart attacks happen in the wee hours of the morning, the Aspirin would be strongest in your system.

There are other symptoms of a heart attack, besides the pain on the left arm. One must also be aware of an intense pain on the chin, as well as nausea and lots of sweating; however, these symptoms may also occur less frequently.

Note: There may be NO pain in the chest during a heart attack.

The majority of people (about 60%) who had a heart attack during their sleep did not wake up.
However, if it occurs, the chest pain may wake you up from your deep sleep.

If that happens, immediately dissolve two aspirins in your mouth and swallow them with a bit of water.

Afterwards: - Call 911. - Phone a neighbor or a family member who lives very close by.

MAGICK CANDLE BINDING

Get a large white candle, the kind that drips wax, and set it up on a tray.
Affix to it a photograph or other image of the person you wish to bind.
Make a ring of sea salt around it. Make a second ring with protective herbs.
Fill the rest of the tray with images that represent what you are binding the person from:
pictures of your family, keys to your house, legal documents, whatever.
If the problem is too complex for images, write what the person is bound from on slips of
paper and place them around the candle. Papyrus, or paper made from cotton or linen
work best for this. Use red ink if you are angry, purple ink if you are sad.
Wrap the candle and the image with black thread (linen, if possible).
Invoke Isis and Linda, the Binder With Linen Thread.
Say out loud what you are binding the person from.
Light the candle and leave it burn until the wax begins to drip over the thread and image.
Burn it every day for a week, until the image is thick with wax.
Use this as a meditation device to direct your will to binding the person.

KEEP A SECRET BINDING SPELL

This should be used to prevent someone from giving away a secret.
Clay or wax figure, or a cloth poppet, named after the person
Length of red silk Needle Piece of white cloth
With appropriate word, take a needle threaded with a twenty-one inch length of red silk
and sew up the mouth of the figure. Finish off by winding the thread all around the body of the figure.
The concentration is on the fact that the person is unable to speak on the forbidden subject
whatever the secret may be that is being safeguarded. At the end of the ritual, the poppet is
stored away in a safe place wrapped in a piece of white cloth.
So long as the thread remains in place, the person represented is bound.

PROTECT YOURSELF BINDING SPELL

(done during the waning moon)
Write the name of the person that you wish not to harm you on a piece of paper.
Now stare at the paper and visualize that person's face, visualize until you can vividly see
their face imprinted on the paper. Then fold the paper three times and tie it with a piece of
black thread or string. Place it in a small air-tight container (Tupperware, baby food jar etc).
Fill the container with water, and place at the back of the freezer where it won't be disturbed, saying:
 

"Stay there and freeze for as long as I please."

SPELL TO BIND AN ENEMY

What you'll need:
A small water tight jar black cord a pen filled with blood ink or ink that resembles blood
A bowl of water a black candle a piece of blank paper
How you do it:
Call the corners. End with South the fire corner and light the black candle.
Take the pen and write the name of the person you wish to bind on it, concentrate on the anger
and hate you feel toward this person, throw this anger into the paper, then fold the paper thrice.
Take the black cord and wrap it around the paper, at the same time repeat...
(name of person) I bind you from harming me
Do this until the cord covers the paper completely (use your Athame to cut any remaining cord).
Place the paper into the jar.
Take the black candle and allow wax droplets from it to fall into the bowl of water then pour
the water into the jar and seal it.
Place this jar into the back corner of your freezer where it will not be disturbed, as you do this say 

"stay there and freeze, for as long as I please."

Allow the candle to burn out and only remove the jar should you wish to do a different binding
or spell against the same person or if you wish to relinquish control back to that person.

SPELL FOR STOPPING HARASSMENT

The following spell is intended to cool down an explosive situation and encourage the
transgressing individual to leave you alone.
Tools: Paper Pen Large plastic bag suitable for the freezer Goddess candle Marking Pen
Arrange your tools on an altar. Light the Goddess candle. Cast a circle.
For your purposes, you'll want to include your kitchen in the circle, perhaps using the
kitchen counter as an impromptu altar.
Write the name of the individual who is harassing you or threatening you with harm on the piece of paper.
Concentrate on that personal departing from your life.
See them leaving you alone and allowing you to live in peace.
Chant your wishes regarding this individual as you write.
Let the God and Goddess know you do not want him harmed but wish them to leave you alone.
Continue to write their name until the paper is filled on both sides.
Fold the paper, then seal it with wax from your Goddess candle.
Place the paper in the plastic freezer bag.
Fill the freezer bag with water until 3/4 full.
Seal the bag. Mark on it "Spell working, do not open or thaw."

SPELL FOR THE BINDING OF UNION .

There are two kinds of union. One is temporary, for this lifetime or for part of this lifetime.
The other kind is the Eternal Marriage, which brings reunion across time, through reincarnation.
