Sit, listen to the wind, birds and trees. Allow the beauty and chaos that is nature to enter and propel you through this time we call life. Breath in the smells of an open fire place and a camp fire. Know the difference they have on you and your surroundings. Give with an open heart and mind. Know that there are richer and poorer. But never measure those two thoughts by the amount of money one has. For richness is how you live and give of yourself, not what you have.

Breakfast Bars and Hobbit Seed Cakes
These are packed with the lift you need to get you through to lunch. Also a great bar for hikes and pack packing although they are a soft chewy bar they pack the needed energy and feeling of fullness your daily life demands.
1 1/2 sticks butter (3/4 cup)
3 tablespoons Maple syrup
2 cups oatmeal (I used quick cook)
2 chunks of bark (chocolate or vanilla)*
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 large egg
1 cup flour
2/3 cup pumpkin seeds
1/3 cup any nut or seed
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and slice bark into small chunks.
Melt butter in microwave 30 seconds until partly liquid. Add the rest of the ingredients leaving the nuts and seed to be folded in at the last.
Press into a lightly oiled and floured 9x12 pan and cook 25 minutes at 350 degrees to achieve a golden brown bar.
* you can replace the bark squared with 3 oz of any chip. We especially like peanut butter chips.
IF YOU WISH TO MAKE THE HOBBIT SEED CAKES FOLLOW BELOW THIS OMIT THE SEEDS, CHOCOLATE AND NUTS FROM ABOVE AND REPLACE THEM WITH THIS BELOW
Hobbit seed cakes
1/2 c sesame seeds
2/3 c milled flax seeds
Omit seeds and nuts from the top recipe and replace with the sesame seeds and milled flax seed. cook and mix as it said above and cook the same amount of time. It will be crispier but still not crispy and denser than the regular recipe.
