Homemade suet cakes

Here is a money saver as well as a wonderful way to care for those animals in your charge. Any animal dwelling on your property is in your charge. It matters not if you picked them or they picked you. I inherited mine as I bought a house with lots of squirrel nests in it's trees. Only recently has the bird population picked up. This is wonderful for either wintering over within your care. I found that sandwich holders by Tupperware available in the stores works perfectly and fits without alterations.
I got 3 at a dollar store for $2.50. But a everything a dollar may also have them.

Easy healthy suet cake for either birds or squirrels

for each cake you will need

3/4 cup oatmeal
1/8 cup bacon grease ( helps gain and maintain fat and is used to heat the body in the cold weather)
1/4 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup seeds (can use any kind. Birdseed, sesame seeds sunflower seeds what ever you have. I have   even used old non germinating seeds in a pinch)

Melt bacon grease in microwave with peanut butter 10-20 seconds just until melty. mix with oatmeal and seeds and press into the sandwich keeper. Put lid on and freeze. When needed remove from freezer and place in a suet feeder.
