Intro to Dragon magic and Dragon spells

An Introduction to Dragon Magick

Humankind has always been fascinated with dragons. They feature in the myths
legends and history of nearly every country on earth. However, most humans
still think of dragons being only a myth or a fantasy, but dragons are very
real, although you wont see them walking down the road or eating young
maidens! Dragons left the earth to live in the astral realms but they still
keep a watchful eye over the human race. Some have even come back to earth
to co-exist with a human, to help them and make sure the ways of the dragon
are never forgotten. Some have been reborn as humans, not knowing their true
past until awakened. It is very hard to tell these people apart from the
rest of the population as they look and seem human, but trust me, they are
there.
Dragon Magick is the practice of calling upon the dragons still in the
astral realms and asking them to become co-magickians and aiding you with
your magick. Dragons have control of much deeper elemental energies than
humans ever feel and can tap into vast amounts of power. If you take the
time to befriend a dragon you will find them to be wonderful friends,
excellent protectors and powerful fellow magickians.
Dragon Magick does not belong to any religion and can be practiced on its
own or with other magickal workings. That said, Dragon Magick is not for
everyone. Those who wish to walk the path of the dragon must be
self-disciplined. They must realize the potential dangers of working with
such energy and power but also dare to communicate with and befriend the
great astral dragons. The dragon magickian has to be serious about and
understand the changes their life will make once on this path.
Before starting, ask yourself, "Am I ready for this?" If the answer is "no"
don't worry about it. Continue to love and study dragons and in a year or
two ask yourself again. If the answer is "yes" then be prepared for a
demanding but rewarding life.

Dragon Magick
The dragon in one form or another was know to the majority of world cultures
in both the Old and New worlds. It was on of the early symbols of the Great
Mother Goddess of the matriarchies. Until the arrival of
Patriarchal societies, the dragon was considered to be a sacred, benevolent
creature; its serpent body symbolized matter and life-giving water of
creation, its wing spirit and sacred breath of life.
It was used as an emblem for divinity for divinity and royalty in Babylon,
Egypt, China, Japan, Greece, and Rome. The Chinese Manchu dynasty, the
Phoenicians, and the Saxons all showed it as enthroned, a symbol
Of the power of the ruler. The Chinese dragon symbolizes the masculine yang
power, very high spiritual power, and the emperor himself. This connection
with imperial power carried over into England and Wales.
The dragon was known as the King of Larger Serpents to medieval writers.
Dragons and bulls in the Western world were fought by such Sun heroes as
Mithras, Siegfried, Hercules, Jason. Horus, and Apollo.
In Hindu myth, Vitra, the Dragon of the Waters, was killed by Indra so the
waters could be released upon the Earth. The dragon was also the emblem of
Aruna and Soma.
There were two major categories of physical appearances of dragon: those of
the East and those of the West.
The Oriental or Chinese dragon looked terrible and fierce, but was a symbol
of prosperity, rain, wisdom, and hidden secrets. Oriental dragons did not
have wings, but were shaped more like huge serpents with four legs. The
early Chinese worshipped the dragon, and at one time had its image on nation
flags. Using the symbol of the five-toed imperial dragon was reserved for
emperors. The guardian of the mansions of the gods was the Chinese Celestial
Dragon, Ti's Lung; he also prevented the deities from falling out of their
heavenly realm. Oriental heroes did not hunt the dragon, as did Western
heroes. The Oriental dragons were said to leave their mountain caves or
watery homes in the Spring to bring the fertilizing rains.
Both the Chinese and Japanese believe that dragons can turn themselves into
birds. The three-clawed dragon of Japan symbolized the Mikado, the imperial
and spiritual power. Most Japanese dragons were said to live in lakes and
springs.
Ancient Western writers wrote all kinds of terrifying things about the
Western dragons. These creatures were built like enormous lizards with wings
their bodies were thicker that those of Oriental dragons. Their throats and
back legs were like those of an eagle, the grasping front legs like those of
a reptile, and a tail that ended in an arrow-point. Western dragons were
considered to be enemies of humans, and heroes were always hunting them down
and killing them. Under the circumstances, it's no wonder that Western
dragons stopped trying to get along with humans. They liked to live in dark
caves, a few of them in water. They breathed fire, and their breath was
supposed to spread plagues.
The dragon in alchemy had a number of meanings. If several dragons were
shown fighting each other, it meant separating out the Elements, or psychic
disintegration. A dragon biting its tail symbolized cyclic processes and
time; this particular dragon was known to the Gnostics as Ouroboros. A
winged dragon represents a volatile Element, while the wingless dragon stood
for a fixed Element.
In spiritual definitions, the dragon represents the supernatural, infinity
itself, and the spiritual powers of change and transformation.
MAGICKAL ATTRIBUTES: Protection, instruction in the spiritual, Element
magick. Using the spiritual to transform life. Protection. Adding extra
power to magick.
CHANT: Dragons strong and dragons bright,
Dragons full of wisdom old,
Teach me the spiritual light.
Let me walk with knowledge bold.
Dragon fire, lift me higher!

Dragon Magick and Draconic Language

For some reason there seems to be a fascination with combining dragon magick
with one or more draconic languages, I'm not sure when or why this started
but there are a few major pitfalls involved which I wish to warn you about.

Firstly, many of the dragons you may attract during magickal rituals are
local to Earth, by that I mean a lot of them live in the 'plane' that
connects Earth and the Astral realm, therefore they do usually have an
understanding of the languages of Earth. As strange as it may seem to some
of you, the best language to communicate with them is your native one, or at
least the language you can speak & understand best.

There are a few reasons for this, you should feel more at ease speaking in
your usual language, you don't have to worry about mispronunciation or
saying completely the wrong thing, and do you have to worry about forgetting
your lines! Draconic companions or guides do often read a lot into how you
are feeling as much as what you are saying, if you feel uncomfortable they
may feel you are not ready for their companionship or guidance.

Secondly, if you try speaking a language you don’t know well and you happen
to attract the attention of a dragon who does speak that language, what are
you going to do when they start chatting? Will you know what they are saying
to you? It is rather rude to greet or call someone in their native language
then be completely unable to continue a conversation. When humans learn
another language they normally learn how to apologise in that language when
they don't understand something, but could you do the same for a draconic
language you've picked up from somewhere online? I would not risk offending
or angering a dragon by claiming knowledge of a language you don't really
know.

Finally, magick should be personal to you. You may think the English
language is boring and not very interesting to dragons but that is not true.
You can put more of your own feelings, thoughts, beliefs and emotions into a
language you can speak well, even if its 'just' English. They will
appreciate your honesty as well, rather than think you feel the need to
claim another language as your own.

A Quick Dragon Water Healing Spell

This spell works best if you can find a nice private stream that you can
walk into naked. Make sure you are safe, watch out for deep patches and fast
flowing currents. Otherwise, if that is not possible, a shower and
visualisation can be used instead.

Undress and enter the stream (if in the shower imagine the stream) and feel
the water flowing over you, taking with it any illness, negativity or
depression. When you feel ready, chant softly:

“Naelyon, please take this illness out of me
Let it flow to the river, flow to the sea.”

Chant until you feel all trace of the illness leave your body. Leave the
water, dry, and thank Naelyon for her assistance.

(Although I have used the name of Naelyon for this spell, personally I use
the name given to me by one of the other elemental water dragons. If you
have been granted a name then use this instead, the power of your personal
name is usually stronger.)

Moon Dragon Protection Spell

To be cast on the night of the full moon.

For this spell I use nine white candles, normally tea-lights, a white dragon
statue, and some moon incense.

Place the candles in a circle, either on your altar if you are inside, or on
the ground around you if you are outside. Place the dragon statue in front
of you and the incense slightly behind it. Both should be inside the ring of
candles.

Light the candles one by one, say as you light each:

"Léas, Lunar Dragon, moon beauty, hear me!"

After lighting them, light the incense. Then sit either before or inside the
circle of candles and say:

"Oh Great Léas, be with me
Great Dragon of the lunar light,
Dragon of the mystic night.
Within this circle of candles bright,
Protect me with your awesome might."

Meditate, feeling the power of the lunar dragon entering your body and soul,
filling you with strength and knowing that you are protected by this lunar
power.

After sufficient time thank Léas for coming and helping you with whatever
words you feel right.

Either snuff out the candles or allow them to burn down safely. This ritual
can be cast every full moon if you wish.

Dragon Spell to Add Power to an Object

*This is one of the first spells I wrote myself and although it was written
to be used by me, it should be easy to adapt for your use.*

I have a gemstone bracelet on which I cast this spell. I find it works well
if performed on the night of the full moon.

You will need: three or more white or silver candles, a red candle, incense
and holder, a small bowl of water, a small bowl of earth or salt, matches
and the item you want to empower.

Place the item on your altar and place the candles in a circle around it.
Place the earth or salt to the north of the candle circle, the incense to
the east, the red candle to the south and the water to the west. Light the
candles whilst saying:

“Great Goddess J’kiri, dragon of infinite wisdom and love, I ask that you
bless this work and add your power to this (name of object).”

Sit for a while and imagine you own personal power flowing into the object,
then the power of J’kiri should join it. After the flow slows down, continue

Light the incense and pass the object through the smoke whilst saying:

“Great Sairys, ruler of the air, I ask that you bless this work and add your
power to this (name of object).”

Light the red candle and, carefully, pass the object through or over the
flame, saying:

“Great Fafnir, ruler of fire, I ask that you bless this work and add your
power to this (name of object).”

Sprinkle a few drops of the water onto the object whilst saying:

“Great Naelyon, ruler of water, I ask that you bless this work and add your
power to this (name of object).”

Touch the object to the earth/salt and say:

“Great Grael, ruler of earth, I ask that you bless this work and add your
power to this (name of object).”

Sit for a while again and feel the elemental powers joining yours and
J’kiri’s in the object. If you are able to see magickal energy you should
see the rainbow of colours flowing around the object but don’t worry if you
can’t.

Then to close the ritual, say:

“I thank you great dragons, for coming this night, for aiding my ritual, for
sharing your powers with me. Go in peace, in light and love.”

Casting a Dragon Circle

The circle is cast with the Blade, the Cup and the Censor. The Priest starts with the Blade in the north and draws the boundry of the circle. As he does he recites "I tread this Path for the Elements, that which comprises all that we see."

The HPS takes to sprinkling the boundries with the Cup filled with salted water. She recites "I tread this Path for Self, a reflection of the Divine."

The HP then takes the censor and carries the smoketo the boundries of the circle in a deosil direction. He recites "I tread this Path for Spirit, that which unites all things."

The HP or HPS then state the charge of our Circle. It is as follows:

"Our Circle is a place where hearts and minds can meet and share in the wonder and empowerment of a living and loving Goddess. We are a coven of friends, but above all things we are Family. Our Love and our Magick binds us together and our Circle keeps us and nurtures us. We are blessed. Blessed Be!"

The Dragon Guardians are then invoked.

EAST
Mighty Dragon, Guardian of the realms of the East. Your tongue is a sharp sword, cutting with the knowledge of the arcane. Your spirit flows as graceful as a swift in flight. Purify us with truth. Blessed Be.

SOUTH
Mighty Dragon, Guardian of the realms of the South, your breath is a flame with the fires of inspiration and passion. Your spirit is searing and fervent. Purify us with Love. Blessed Be.

WEST
Mighty Dragon, Guardian of the realms of the West, your coils are the cleansing healing waves that nurture the soul. Your spirit lunges, leaps and splashes like a Talbot at play. Purify us with pulsing tides. Blessed Be.

NORTH
Mighty Dragon, Guardian of the realms of the North, your talons run like roots into the earth, giving you infinite strength. Your spirit is substantial, hard and pure like a clear crystal. Purify us with persistant wisdom. Blessed Be.

Each of these Dragons has a secret name that they are also invoked with. A suggestion is that anyone using these invocations meditate to find an appropriate name for each Guardian and use it along with or instead of the words "Mighty Dragon".

I find that the Circle charge sets the mood for the Circle and I change it to suit the situation. If anyone has ideas for a Circle charge, I'd like to hear them. I have a number of Circle charges that I use but fresh ones always are nice.

Dragon Magick  Spells

A WORD OF CAUTION! Dragon Magick isn't for everyone, if you're not dedicated to knowing the dragon, don't even try it. Dragons aren't in the mood for "entertaining" people and are quite impatient if your not there for a real purpose and need for what your attaining.

Even if you have been a witch for years, dragons are a different

story. But if you do decide to take the path of knowing dragons they

will be your friend, protector and even a fellow magician. They do

have the wisdom of the ages, dragons are as REAL as we are, I see

them everyday, watching me and going about their every day life,

like scratching behind the ears! To get started there is a good book

you can read, Dancing with Dragons by D.J. Conway. But for now these are easy spells you can do with no magick circle and little prep.

These come in handy when you have a small child and can't get away

long enough to do a full ritual! I do hope to have more spells, so

check by often.

Dragon Spell Box:

Buy or make a box out of any material you like, decorate it with

dragon images and dragon runes. Anyway a recent photo of yourself, 1 quartz crystal,
1 pyramid any size if you can't buy one make a paper

one and three small squares of paper.

Write out your three wishes, place in the box.
Place crystal on top of wishes, then place the top

on. Align the box to face true north in a place it won't be

disturbed. Place photo on top, put pyramid on top and align to the

directions. Hold palms of your hands around your box and say three

times with great feeling:

"Dragon wishing box,

I trust to you these wishes.

Make them all come true.

My desires, I beg you fill.

So mote it be, just as I will."

Visit your dragon spell box once or twice a week, and tell it that

you trust in its work. Renew every solstice and equinox.

Dragon House Cleasning:

All you need for this is a smuge stick and a feather to help the

smoke into the corners (its a insult to blow the smoke)go CLOCKWISE

and do all 4 corners of all rooms in the house including the attic

and basement if you have one. Say with great feeling:

"O GREAT DRAGONS! POWERS OF WATER, EARTH, FIRE, AND SKIES.

I CLEANSE THIS HOUSE.

SO ONLY POSITIVE ENERGY MAY ENTER.

AS I WILL SO MOTE IT BE!"

Do this when ever you feel the house needs to be cleared of negative

energies.
******

  • A toothpick or knife
What to do:
a) Cast a circle

Stalwart Dragons of prosperity,
Hear my call and join your power with me.
Tonight we labour together to increase my finances
Welcome and blessings be!

d) Cleanse and purify a green candle
e) Once the candle is purified inscribe it with your name, the amount of money that you want to increase your finances by, and the date that you need it by.

Imagine exactly how you will put the finances into use. Make the images bigger, brighter, and closer to you. Continue doing this until the candle vibrates in your hand with the creative power that you have imbued it with.
h) Address the Earth Dragons:
Dragons of the Earth I ask you to join me in increasing my finances.
I am not asking for selfish reasons, nor am I asking for a hand out.
I ask you to walk by my side and help make me aware of opportunities
that I might otherwise miss. When I tire remind me with your steely
gaze that to obtain my goal I must strive harder (mentally and physically)
i) Light the green candle. As the candle burns allow your mind to consider what steps must be taken to achieve your goal as well as any possible obstacles and how you will meet them. As you do this imagine an Earth Dragon walking beside you and giving you strength as you conquer.
j) Once the candle has burned down thank the gathered dragons by offering food and drink to the dragons.
