Myrrh

Myrrh-(Protection, Exorcism, Healing, Spirituality)

Myrrh was burned to Ra at noon in ancient Egypt, and was also fumed in the temples if Isis.

Burned as an incense, myrrh purifies the area, lifts the vibrations and creates peace. However, it is rarely burned alone; usually in conjunction with
Frankincense or other resins. Myrrh increases the power of any incense to which it is added.
 
Myrrh is also included in healing incenses and sachets, and its smoke is used to consecrate, purify and bless objects such as talismans, amulets, charms and magickal tools.
 
Myrrh also aids meditation and contemplation. It is often added to sachets, usually with Frankincense.
 
Considering the plant's shape and the fact that its gum resin has been used as a drying stimulant, it is easy to place this incense in Mars. The thorns of the tree represent the grief of loss as well as the resin's ability to protect and heal. This is an excellent incense to help with loss, whether it be that of a loved one or a great injury (and thus loss of safety) done to one's heart, spirit, or body. It brings Martial protection to the injured and is wonderful for all sorts of purification. 

In the Kabbalah, it is associated with Binah, and it connects with Crone energy and thus the Underworld and the Abyss.

One Herb Incense and what they are used for

Here are some one-herb incenses that can be burned on charcoal blocks as needed. They are instant incenses, needing no mixing or measuring. Simply grind them before use.


One Herb Incenses


1) Allspice: Burn to attract money and luck and to
provide extra physical energy.

2) Bay: Use a small amount for purification and
protection of the home.

3) Cedar: Smoulder for purification, protection, to
speed healing and promote spirituality, and to obtain
money.

Acorn, celendine, cinquefoil, crocus, daffodil, dogwood, Easter lilly,
honeysuckle, iris, jasmine, rose, strawberry, tansey, and violets.

BELTANE:
Almond, angelica, ash tree, bluebells, cinquefoil, daisy, frankincense,
hawthorn, ivy, lilac, marigold, meadowsweet, primrose, roses, satyrion root,
woodruff, and yellow cowslips.

SUMMER SOLSTICE:
Chamomile, cinquefoil, elder, fennel, hemp, larkspur, lavender, male fern,
mugwort, pine, roses, Saint John's wort, wild thyme, wisteria, and verbena.

LAMMAS:
Acacia flowers, aloes, cornstalks, cyclamen, fenugreek, frankincense, heather,
hollyhock, myrtle, oak leaves, sunflower, and wheat.

AUTUMN EQUINOX:
Acorns, asters, benzoin, ferns, honeysuckle, marigold, milkweed, mums, myrrh,
oak leaves, passionflower, pine, roses, sage, Soloman's seal, and thistles.

SAMHAIN:
Acorns, apples, broom, deadly nightshade, dittany, ferns, flax, fumitory,
heather, mandrake, mullein, oak leaves, sage, and straw.

WINTER SOLSTICE:
Bay, bayberry, blessed thistle, cedar, chamomile, evergreen, frankincense,
holley, juniper, mistletoe, moss, oak, pine cones, rosemary, and sage.

Winter's Solstice

To make Winter Solstice Oil,

 1/8 Cup grape seed oil or other base oil of your choice.
 Add the following:
4 drops pine oil
2 drops orange oil
2 drops cedar oil
2 drops juniper oil
2 - 3 small lumps of frankincense, finely ground

As you blend the oils, visualize your intent, and take in the aroma. Know that this oil is sacred and magical. Label, date, and store in a cool, dark place. Use during your Yule celebrations to anoint participants or tools.

Yule Incense

Scents have a way of making time stand still for us sometimes, and the aromas of the winter holidays are no exception. For many people, re-creating the smells and emotions of our childhood, or even of some distant ancestral memory, is part of the magic of the Yule season.

To make your own magical winter night's incense, first determine what form you’d like to make. You can make incense with sticks and in cones, but the easiest kind uses loose ingredients, which are then burned on top of a charcoal disc or tossed into a fire. This recipe is for loose incense, but you can always adapt it for stick or cone recipes.

As you mix and blend your incense, focus on the intent of your work. This particular recipe is one which evokes the spices and magic of a cold December night. Use it during a ritual, if you like, or as a smudging incense to purify a sacred space. You can also toss some into your fire just to make the house smell like winter.

2 parts Juniper berries
2 parts mugwort
1 part cedar
1 part pine resin
1 part laurel leaves
1 part chopped sweetgrass
½ part rosemary

Add your ingredients to your mixing bowl one at a time. Measure carefully, and if the leaves or blossoms need to be crushed, use your mortar and pestle to do so. As you blend the herbs together, state your intent. You may find it helpful to charge your incense with an incantation, such as:

As the sun returns, back to the earth,
we celebrate life and death and rebirth.
Cold winter nights and chilly days,
smoke in the sky, carry ills away.
A time of magic, at the longest night,
for without the dark, there cannot be light.
Herbs of power, blended by me,
As I will, so it shall be.

Store your incense in a tightly sealed jar. Make sure you label it with its name and date. Use within three months, so that it remains charged and fresh.

Pans woodland Potpourri

A basketful of Pan's Woodland Potpourri makes a fragrant altar
decoration, a sacred fire offering to the Horned God, and a
wonderful Sabbat gift idea.

two handfuls of cedar twigs,
two handfuls of pine needles,
one handful of larch or alder cones
three tablespoons of dried myrtle leaves
a bit of dried lichen
two tablespoons each of dried southernwood, salt,
and powdered orris root.

Combine the following ingredients,Stir it gently with a wooden wand [a
wooden spoon will also work] as you sprinkle the potpourri with
one teaspoon of cedar or sandalwood oil

Thinking about having a seance - try this incense combo to ramp up the energy vibrations in your space and pull the spirits right in!


Mix a tablespoon each of FRANKINCENSE and SANDALWOOD - add a couple of pinches of LAVENDER to the mixture.

Burn over spell charcoal - open your minds - stay focused and call the spirits in.

When you're done - tell the spirits to go back into the light. Once you know they're gone, put the incense out.

45 drops patchouli oil
1 cup oak moss
2 cups dried apple blossoms
2 cups dried heather flowers
1 cup dried and chopped apple peel
1 cup dried pumpkin seeds
1/2 cup dried and chopped mandrake root


Mix the patchouli oil with the oak moss, and then add the remaining
ingredients. Stir the potpourri well and store in a tightly covered ceramic
or glass container.

Water incense

Water is usually assigned to the direction of west. This is the element of the natural psychic,
one related to pregnancy, birth, rebirth, death, regeneration, divination, purification, psychic
endeavors, spirit contact, and past life exploration. Water is the other feminine element.

3 parts lavender
1 part willow bark
1 part catnip
1/4 part valerian

Other water-related herbs and plants include cypress bark, jasmine, kelp, lotus, moss,
mrytle, myrrh, rue, sandalwood chips, seaweed, and vanilla.

Burn in rituals using water to intensify the spells power.

Autumnal  Faerie Mix Incense

· 1 oz. Juniper berries (a tree sacred to the Druids and very magical)
· 1 oz. Rosemary needles (used for remembrance at Samhain)
· 1 oz. Frankincense powder
· ½ oz. Valerian root (great for love)
· 10 drops rosewood essential oil, 5 drops myrrh essential oil, 5 drops lavender essential oil.

This makes a really intense, woodsy mix that appeals to those of the Faery Kingdom. Place mixture, without grinding the mix, in an airtight glass jar, mixing very well. The longer it's stored, the more it improves! Sprinkle carefully on a lit charcoal disc and enjoy.

Burn on a charcoal disk, safely placed in an appropriate container
of sand.

Grind the herbs and resins finely in a mortar and pestle, filling
them with their desired intention.

House Protection Oil

Anointed on charms designed to protect the home from evil. Sprinkled
about the home to keep evil influences away.

Use equal parts of the following;
five-finger grass, sandalwood, gardenia petals and purslane herb.

 Add two tablespoons of this mixture to two ounces of
oil. One pinch of blessed salt is put in each bottle of oil made.

Uncrossing Oil

Good to undo star crossed lovers magick, straighten out messages that have been crossed, and getting things back on track.

Mix two parts sandalwood, patchouli leaves and myrrh, with one part
five-finger grass.
Add two tbsps. of this mixture to two ounces of oil.
Put a pinch of blessed salt and eight drops of household ammonia
to each 1 ounce bottle of oil. Shake well before each use.

To make a personal protection oil blend together the oils of  rosemary, rose geranium, and cypress.
This oil is also used to anoint candles and is added to protective cleansing baths.

1 T base oil
4 drops Primrose
4 drops Lavendar
2 drops Sandalwood

In many forms of magick you will need to use oil. This is a simple
way to make your own oil. Fill a small jar with the leaves or flowers
of the herb(s) you want to use. Pour olive oil over them, cover
tightly, Keep it in a warm place, out of sunlight for three days,
each day, shake the bottle to thoroughly wet the leaves, Third day:
strain oil, fill the jar with fresh leaves/ flowers, pour same oil
back into jar, repeat several times, until the oil is heavily
saturated with fragrance, Finally strain the oil through filter paper
( muslin / cheese cloth)
